Bailard Named as Finalist for Top Small Workplaces 2009
FOSTER CITY, CALIFORNIA, July 15, 2009 - Bailard, Inc., an employee-owned provider of investment management and wealth management services, is proud to announce it has been selected as one of 35 finalists for the Top Small Workplaces 2009 annual ranking. Winning Workplaces and The Wall Street Journal have collaborated to identify exceptional organizations that have built workplace environments that foster teamwork, flexibility, and innovation while providing an atmosphere and benefits that encourage employee loyalty, and personal and professional growth. The Top Small Workplaces winners will be selected by a national panel of small business experts and announced in The Wall Street Journal report on September 28, 2009. Those named will also be honored at a conference and celebration in Chicago on October 1-2, 2009.
In order to be nominated, each organization must be independent, with no more than $200 million in annual revenues and 500 or fewer employees. Applicants were drawn from across the continent and across a broad spectrum of industries to include private, nonprofit and publicly held organizations.
Bailard attributes much of its success to the firm’s innovative practices and strong culture of openness, which is 40 years in the making. “We keep each other informed through all-company meetings held each Monday morning, weekly investment briefings, small-group chats with the Chairman, and by way of our collaborative ‘no doors’ environment,” offers Jenilee Deal, Human Resources Associate. “We literally mean, ‘no doors’!”, says Deal, referencing the absence of doors on all offices at their Foster City, California headquarters. A highly visible sign of its success is the long-term nature of the firm’s relationships with employees and clients alike. Two key measures believed to be linked are employee tenure (averaging over 13 years) and client retention (over 98% for its wealth management clients over the past 5 years ending 2008).*
* Our Advisory Service client retention rate for the 3 and 5 years ending in 2008 was 98% and 98%, respectively. 2007's and 2008's retention rates were 99% and 97% respectively. These numbers do not include terminations due to estate distributions or accounts terminated by Bailard due to account size.
